Women fill many roles in dairy industry

Amy Gokey

Happy New Year! As we begin the new year we tend to look back on the year we just had and oftentimes people tend to make New Year’s resolutions. These resolutions can range from a multitude of things such as getting in shape, trying something new and meeting new people. Although these resolutions are normally just thoughts and many of us, including myself do not follow through with them, we still make them year after year.

To some people resolutions seem unsuccessful and useless but what if I told you that, you can make your resolutions meaningful? You see it’s quite simple with dairy! Everyone needs dairy in their lives, there are many health benefits from eating dairy and it can help to create strong bones and muscles.

Not only are dairy products affordable, delicious, and nutritious, but by consuming dairy products you help to give back to your community. When you purchase dairy products you help to stimulate the economy. Something as simple as buying dairy products does so much! I encourage you to make dairy products a priority on your shopping list this year, it is simple and a resolution that everyone can complete.

I often hear people say “I don’t have time” or “I’m too busy to cook”. This leads to many people and families choosing to eat meals on-the-go such as fast food or takeout from a restaurant. Well even with these options, dairy is still available. Did you know that dairy products can be found at chain restaurants across the country? Restaurants such as McDonalds, Domino’s, Pizza Hut, Papa John’s and Taco Bell work diligently to incorporate dairy products in their menu items. Pizza Hut became the top user of cheese and they even created a new “3 Topping Stuffed Crust” pizza to help increase cheese sales. All these restaurants have partnered with the United States Department of Agriculture to help drive sales on dairy products and promote the benefits of dairy. So even if you can’t sit down and enjoy dairy at your dinner table, it can still be enjoyed on the go.

Many dairy products are packaged in many different ways and the variation in packaging helps to accommodate your busy life. Cheese sticks, for example, are a great way to enjoy dairy on the go. They are small and can fit inside a lunch pail very conveniently, and they also save you time on having to cut individual slices from a brick of cheese. Many products make for a great snack or a little something extra in your lunch. Dairy products are all around us and can be enjoyed at any meal or time of the day. So as we continue into 2021,

I urge you to bring dairy into the new year with you!
