After over 20 years of advocacy and volunteering for North Country senior citizens, Ruth Demarse has truly made her community a better place. Please join me in celebrating Ruth Demarse as a 2020 Women of Distinction under the category of Volunteerism.
Ruth Demarse has dedicated countless hours to volunteering at the Malone Adult Center and is an integral part of its Meals on Wheels program. After retiring from her career at the The University of Vermont Health Network - Alice Hyde Medical Center more than two decades ago, Ruth began delivering meals for the Malone Adult Center, and has remained dedicated to serving North Country senior citizens ever since. Ruth has been involved with several facets of the adult center, including organizing fundraisers, delivering and serving meals, returning recyclables and filling gas cans. While the center was closed during the COVID-19 pandemic, Ruth oversaw the delivery of more than 180 meals to seniors in Malone and surrounding communities. She also served as board president for the center for many years.
As a resident of Maple Ridge Senior Housing, Ruth organizes bingo activities for the apartment complex and takes her friends and neighbors to doctor’s appointments when needed. She also remains active in her parish and coordinates bingo for St. John Bosco Church. While she turns 81 years old on July 18, Ruth’s active lifestyle keeps her young at heart. Ruth’s selfless actions and commitment to her community serves as an inspiration to her friends, family and peers, and shows what it means to truly give back to one’s community.
