Snowmobile season in Northern Franklin County is finally getting under way thanks to recent snows, and trails are groomed while new signage is being posted. Terry “Belly” Bellinger, president of Franklin Snowmobilers Inc. (FSI), is in charge of grooming nearly 100 round-trip trail miles. Belllnger (left) and George Fellion have been placing updated signs along trails that use the former railroad bed owned by National Grid. The old rail bed is limited to snowmobiles. All other vehicles — including off-road vehicles such as four-wheelers, ATVs, and UTVs — are not allowed on the rail corridor at all times of the year and violators are subject to fines. Bellinger and Fellion groom trails that run south and east from Mountain View to Loon Lake and Standish and north from Mountain View to Malone. ADK Snowmobilers Club recently established a spur snowmobile route in Malone to provide access to the Holiday Inn Express and nearby businesses on U.S. Route 11.
