“The COVID-19 pandemic has had a profound impact on our communities,” Franklin County Industrial Development Agency CEO Jeremy Evans said. “As we move forward, we must be rooted in a community-first culture in order to support our local economic recovery. One way for us to do this is to serve our community.

“To quote Martin Luther King, Jr. “Everyone can be great, because everyone can serve.” Serving your community is a worthy endeavor. Giving back to the place you call home and serving your neighbors helps to unite the community and bridge social, economic, and political differences. Simple acts of service can make a big difference.

Looking for ways to serve? Try these:

Vote

Give blood

Promote our local businesses on social media

Participate in or organize the cleanup of a local river or park

Smile, say hi, and help out a neighbor

And what better time to talk about the American tradition of serving than right before the 4th of July. While parades, fireworks, and barbecues may not be happening this year the spirit of the holiday remains: be a good citizen and do good work.
