The University of Vermont Health Network plans to begin restoring access this weekend to the Epic electronic health records system beyond the current “read only” status to all inpatient and ambulatory sites at UVM Medical Center. We are also working to restore Epic access to ambulatory sites at Central Vermont Medical Center, Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital, and Porter Medical Center as quickly as possible.
The process is likely to take several days. We will only be moving forward as long as each step is achieved successfully, and patient safety and quality can be assured.
We know the past few weeks have been extremely difficult ones – for patients as well as employees. This major step forward in the recovery from a recent cyberattack event should help alleviate some of the challenges we have faced and improve the efficiency of the care we provide. Once Epic is restored it will take some time to update and reconcile the system with current patient information.
The restoration of Epic will allow our IT Team to focus its attention on restoring additional patient-facing applications, including the patient portal, MyChart, which is still unavailable. Patients may continue to experience impacts from the cyberattack for some time. Anyone having difficulty reaching a provider can call a central line at 802-847-8888.
The UVM Health Network will continue to provide systems and patient service updates when they are available. The latest updates and information can be found at http://www.uvmhealth.org/cyberattack. All media inquiries regarding the investigation should be directed to FBI Public Affairs Specialist Sarah Ruane at firstname.lastname@example.org.
