25 COVID cases recorded

MALONE — Franklin County logged 16 new cases of COVID-19 on Thursday, according to County Manager Donna J. Kissane.

The county logged 86 active cases Thursday, after 38 cases of the virus were reported on Wednesday.

One death due to COVID-19 was reported by the state Department of Health on Sept. 28, bringing Franklin County’s total fatalities since the start of the pandemic to 50.

The fatality was the first reported in the county since Aug. 23.

Franklin County recorded a positivity rate of 7.98% and a seven-day average of 9.43% on Wednesday, according to the county’s COVID-19 guidance website.

There are currently cases of COVID-19 in all three of Malone’s state prisons within three cases reported at Franklin Correctional Facility, while Bare Hill and Upstate correctional facilities are both currently reporting two cases of the virus.

Akwesasne reported 18 new COVID-19 cases last week, according to Brendan F. White, the tribe’s director of communications, who said one case of the virus remains active.
