BANGOR — A local man on Monday was arrested, upon investigation of a report that he allegedly punched a woman in the face and attacked her while she slept, state police said.
James Fisher, 34, was charged with second-degree strangulation, third-degree assault, and seventh degree criminal possession of a controlled substance.
Officers responded to a report of an altercation — which had occurred at around 12:30 a.m. on Sunday — at approximately 4:49 p.m. on Monday, police said.
The violent encounter occurred at a residence on Lake Street, in Rouses Point, police said, adding that the victim was attacked while she was asleep.
Fisher punched her several times in the face and choked her until she lost consciousness, police said.
Fisher was found in possession of a small quantity of a narcotic substance.
The victim was later treated at Alice Hyde Medical Center.
Fisher was determined to be wanted on a bench warrant issued by the Fort Covington Town Court for failing to appear, police said. This was following an arrest where he was charged with fourth degree criminal mischief in February, police said.
Fisher was arraigned at Altona Court. He was sent to Clinton County Jail without bail and is scheduled to return to court in Champlain at a later date.
