MALONE –– A village man with a prior sex crime conviction was arrested last week for another such crime and for failing to report a change of status under state corrections law.

Derek M. Prairie, 35, was charged May 19 by Malone Village police with possession of an obscene sexual performance by a child under the age of 16, a felony; and three counts of failure to report a status change and was released on appearance tickets under the terms of the state bail reform law, police said. He was subsequently arrested on a Franklin County Court warrant charging him with violating the terms of his probation and committed to the Franklin County Jail without bail.

Prairie had been sentenced in 2018 to 10 years’ probation and ordered to register as a sex offender after he pleaded guilty to a charge of possessing an obscene sexual performance by a child in connection with an April 30, 2018, incident.
