Man faces charges

WESTVILLE — A Fort Covington woman was arrested after crashing a car on State Route 37 in Westville, Friday night.

Melinda Stevens, 59, of Fort Covington, was charged with driving while ability impaired and criminal possession of a controlled substance by state police.

State troopers were dispatched to the scene of a single-vehicle crash on State Route 37, near Flat Rock Road, shortly before 10:30 p.m., according to a state police press release.

At the scene of the crash, troopers found Stevens’ vehicle, a 2008 Ford Fusion, completely disabled after the car struck two mailboxes, according to the press release, which states further investigation revealed Stevens was in possession of clonazepam, which she did not have a prescription for.

Stevens was released on tickets returnable to Westville Town Court.
