MALONE –– A Malone man is facing a felony charge after allegedly breaking into an Elbow Street residence and assaulting a woman there.
Dennis D. Mulverhill Jr., 29, was charged Wednesday by Malone Village Police with second-degree burglary, a felony; and third-degree assault and fourth-degree criminal mischief, both misdemeanors. He was arraigned before Malone Town Justice Charles Robert and committed to the Franklin County Jail in lieu of $10,000 cash bail.
Police said they were called to Elbow street about 3:15 Wednesday in response to a report of an assault in progress. When they arrived, they saw Mulverhill running from the scene; he was caught on Moses Street after a short foot pursuit, police said.
An investigation showed Mulverhill had initially attempted to gain access to the apartment by smashing the glass in the front door, police said. Unsuccessful, Mulverhill then pushed in a window air conditioner, crawled inside, assaulted the woman and damaged some property, they said.
Mulverhill has a lengthy arrest record dating back to his teens on charges including robbery, assault and multiple drug offenses.
