MALONE –– A village man was jailed in lieu of $20,000 bail Wednesday after police say he repeatedly struck his wife with a belt.

Angelo Jones, 25, was charged by Malone Village Police with second-degree assault, a felony, following a domestic incident that police said left his wife with numerous abrasions and contusions.

Jones was arraigned before Malone Town Justice Charles Robert, who ordered him held in the Franklin County Jail in lieu of $20,000 cash bail pending his next court appearance.

Jones has a history of assault charges dating back to his teen years and he previously served a one-to three-year sentence in state prison resulting from a conviction in Franklin County Court on a charge of second-degree attempted assault; he was released from prison in November 2014.
