Thomas G. Nelson, 27, of Malone, was charged Sunday with first-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument, a felony, after he allegedly attempted to pass a counterfeit $100 bill at a local business.
A week earlier, Jessica N. Brown, 37, of Malone, was charged with the same offense after she allegedly passed a fake $100 bill at a local business.
Nelson was arraigned in Malone Town Court and released on his own recognizance. Brown was arraigned in Malone Town Court and committed to the Franklin County Jail.
“We have seen an increase in these bills in the Village of Malone and would like to remind local businesses to pay close attention if individuals are attempted to pass $100.00 bills,” Police Chief Chris Premo wrote in a Tuesday release announcing the arrests.
