MALONE — Vehicle thefts and break-ins have occurred and are considered a rising trend in the Malone and Massena areas.

Theft of recreational vehicles and trailers also has been reported recently.

New York State Police released a public service announcement on the break-ins, telling residents of Malone and Massena to always lock their vehicles, even if the vehicle is parked in their driveway, close all windows, which includes the sunroof, and never leave keys, valuables, or personal identification in a vehicle.

Vehicles are being reported stolen or entered into partly due to victims leaving the vehicles unlocked with keys in them.

State police also advise residents to place padlocks on trailer hitches and lock garages and sheds where anything of value is stored to prevent theft.

State police request that any suspicious behavior be reported to local law enforcement agencies, and anyone with information regarding the recent break-ins should contact state troopers at 518-873-2750.
