Catherine Jean (Cathie) Murphy, 59, passed away on June 21, 2020, after a very brief illness and diagnosis of cancer.
Cathie was born March 3, 1961, to Robert and Marion (Badore) Murphy. Her mother survives her. Cathie was the second of five daughters and her sisters, Patty Murphy-Stickney (Jim), Eileen Murphy-LePine, Margaret Murphy and Joanne Preston (Rick) survive her; along with nieces, nephews and “adopted” family members.
Cathie leaves behind her two sons, Cody Murphy-LaChance and Daniel Murphy. Cathie loved her sons more than anyone until her granddaughter Jadelynn Jean Murphy came along, and then she loved her as much, and She fondly referred to her as Toots!
Cathie graduated from FA in 1979. It is believed she received her degree in “sarcasm and the unbridled truth”. Cathie said what she was thinking and was quick with a comeback, but she was also just as quick to offer a helping hand whenever she could. Cathie was gifted with artistic ability and learned mechanical skills later on, as she was never afraid to learn new things.
After graduation Cathie went to work for the NYS Department of Transportation, and retired from there in 2016 after 32 years. Cathie was the first woman promoted to a supervisor position after many years of hard work and dedication.
Cathie will be sorely missed by all, including her two closest friends, Terry Trudeau and Robin Timmons. She also leaves behind her fur babies, Hemi, George and Notorious.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, June 26, at St. Joseph’s Cemetery on the Childs Road. Father Mike Jablonski of St. Andre Bessette Parish will officiate. Arrangements were made with R. W. Walker Funeral Home in Plattsburgh.
