Whyte

Charles N. Whyte, 86, of Bridgeport, NY passed away Friday, March 26, 2021 at the Syracuse VA Medical Center with family by his side.

He was born July 3, 1934 in Paterson, NJ, a son of the late Robert Whyte and Leonore Post. He was a proud Korean War naval veteran who always perked up at the beginning notes of “Anchors Aweigh.”

On June 3, 1964, Charles married Grace Hall in Wyckoff, NJ. He loved his wife dearly and treasured the family they created during their 57 years of marriage.

In May of 1973, Charles moved with his family to Smyrna, NY., where they lived for many years. He had a gentleman’s farm complete with free-range chickens, turkeys, geese, sheep, pigs, cows, and a variety of fruit trees. In 2002 Charles and Grace moved to Malta, NY., where they lived until 2004. While living in Malta, Charles enjoyed riding his bicycle through the neighborhood with his grandchildren. In 2004, Grace and Charles moved to Chateaugay, NY to reside on son Kenneth’s farm. He loved watching Ken and Lisa’s three daughters grow up and enjoyed tending to the farm where he could, for nearly 15 years. In 2019, Charles and Grace moved to Bridgeport, NY., to be closer to their family.

He enjoyed a long career in appliance repair with Public Service Electric and Gas in NJ, Sears, CN Whyte Appliance in Smyrna, and S&S Appliance in Norwich.

Surviving are his wife, Grace, (who’s always right), and their children: Mark Whyte and wife Donna of Ballston Spa, NY; Kenneth Whyte and wife Lisa of Chateaugay, NY and Florissant, MO; Lee Whyte and wife Bobbi Jo of Munnsville, NY; Nephew Andrew Whyte of Endicott, NY and Pam Lasco and Tim of Coatesville, PA. Grandchildren: Cassondra and husband, James Rasmussen, Stephanie, Kayley, Carter, Taylor, Nathaniel, TJ, Jordan and Jake. Charles was excited to greet his first great-grandchild in June 2021.

He read many books over the years and met every day with a “Yes, Dear”- said lovingly to his wife.
