BRUSHTON – With heavy hearts the family of Donald A. Barney announce his passing on Monday (December 14, 2020) at his home with the love of his family at his side. Arrangements are with the Flint Funeral Home, Moira.
Born in Malone on June 2, 1929 the son of Carl & Anna (Batraw) Barney. He attended Malone Franklin Academy. On June 7, 1952 Donald united into marriage with Edith M. LaPlante. She predeceased him on October 1, 2011. At one time Don worked for Dwyers, the Sunshine Store, Agway, Blevins, and owned and operated Red Rose Feed Store, and Don’s Auto in Moira. He was active on many School Boards in Malone, North Bangor, and Madrid. He was on the board for the IDA, Maple Leaf Housing, and Franklin County Solid Waste. He was also Mayor of Brushton for 20 years.
Treasured memories will be forever in the hearts of his sons and daughters-in-law, Ernie and Dawn Barney of Brushton, NY; Ray and Patti Barney of Lisbon, NY; Carl and Beth Barney of Madrid, NY. Daughters and sons-in-law, Anna and Joel Avery of Brushton, NY; Madonna Barney and her companion, Gary Lucey of Brushton, NY; Lynn Potter and her companion, Stephen Damon of St. Regis Falls, NY; Mary Ellen and David McKane of Brushton, NY; and Joanne and Lee Monnet of Ogdensburg., NY. He is also survived by several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides his parents and wife, he is predeceased by brothers, David, Andrew and his wife, Joan, Douglas, a sister, Pauline Farrio and son-in-law, Maurice Potter.
A graveside service will be held Saturday (Dec. 19th) at 12 noon at St. Mary’s Cemetery where Donald will be laid to rest beside his beloved Edith.
