Donald D. Johnston, 88, of State Route 122, Burke died Thursday, Dec. 17, 2020 at CVPH Medical Center, Plattsburgh.
Born on Nov. 11, 1932 in Brainardsville, NY, he was the son of Ernest and Leola (Whittemore) Johnston.
He was married to Verla Barney on June 14, 1952 in Burke, NY by Rev. Dwyer. She predeceased him on June 13, 2013.
Don graduated from Chateaugay Central School. He was employed as foreman for Reynolds Metals, Massena, retiring in February 1991. He also served as Burke Town Justice for 29 years. He was a communicant of St. Patrick’s Church, Chateaugay and attended St. Francis of Assisi Church, Constable. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Moose, and NYS Magistrates Association.
He is survived by four children and their spouses, D. David Johnston and his wife, Cynthia Ford-Johnston of Westport, Linda Lash and her husband, Dan of Griffin, GA, Jody Johnston and his wife, Corri of Malone, Lisa Naegele and her husband, Barry of Aliso Viejo, CA; 14 grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Sally Johnston of Burke; a sister and brother-in-law, Eleanor and Bob Quigley of Burke; two sisters-in-law, Donna Johnston of Burke and Edith Johnston of Malone; several nieces and nephews.
Besides his wife, he was predeceased by his parents; four brothers, Calvin, Gordon “Sandy”, Robert and Everett Johnston and a sister, Mary Jean Selkirk.
A service will be held in the spring and announced at a later date.
