Mark A. Pond

Mark A. Pond, 72, of Chateaugay, passed away Sunday, January 22, 2023 at CVPH Medical Center, Plattsburgh with his loving family by his side.

Born on May 12, 1950 in Malone, NY, he was the son of William and Helen (Darrah) Pond.

He was married to Darlene Mayville on July 28, 2012 in Chateaugay, NY.

Mark attended Malone Central Schools. He enlisted in the United States Army in Sept. 1969 and served in Vietnam until he was honorably discharged in April 1971. He continued to serve in the U.S. Army Reserves for 21 years. He worked for many businesses in Malone as an auto mechanic as well as for several local area farms. He was employed at Franklin County Soil Conservation, Goss Tire for 21 years and most recently as a furnace service technician and repairman at Arnold Oil.

He was a 3rd Degree Member with the Knights of Columbus. He was an avid motorcycle fan, attending local rallies with his beloved Spyder Motorcycle. He enjoyed working on cars, restoring a 1967 Mustang that he still owned to this day. He loved John Deere Tractors, camping, playing pool and watching wrestling. He enjoyed deer hunting with his step-sons. He loved a good cup of Stewarts coffee with his friends.

Mark is survived by his wife, Darlene of Chateaugay; his son and daughter-in-law, Jeffrey and Kim Pond of Virginia; grandchildren, Carter (Madison), Jake and Claire Pond of Virginia; his twin sister, Martha Bowen of Malone; step-children, Marlene (Tim) Gray, Lyle Russell Jr., Tracey (Sam) Garren, Tammy (Jody) Warriner; step-grandchildren, Ryan (Heather), Jarid (Liz) and Owen Gray, Josh Garren, Krysta (Devey) Russell, Cole Hyde, Lindsay and Cody Warriner; step great grandchildren, Kaydence, Allison, Julien, Ivan, Bryson, Raleigh and one on the way; a nephew, Ben Bowen of Moira; and an aunt, Barbara Darrah of Saranac Lake.

He was predeceased by his parents and a step-son, Todd Russell.

Calling hours will be held at the Chateaugay Funeral Home on Saturday, January 28, 2023 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. A memorial service will immediately follow at 3 p.m. in the funeral home chapel.
