Maurice G. Griffin Sr., 88, of Pinnacle, North Carolina and previously of Chateaugay, New York, passed away on April 7, 2021, at the Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem, NC. Born April 14, 1932, in the Town of Bellmont, NY, he was the son of Rolland and Laura (Dora) Griffin. They predeceased him.
Maurice enlisted in the United States Army in 1951, and after serving 3 years, he was honorably discharged. Upon his discharge, Maurice returned to NY and married Yvonne (Noreault) Griffin on March 19, 1955, and they went on to have seven (7) children and settle in Chateaugay, NY.
When he retired from Alcoa after 25 years, Maurice and Yvonne spent their winters in Florida and then North Carolina, where they eventually lived full time. Maurice loved to hunt in his younger days, read westerns, garden and play cards especially with his good friend “brother” Fred LaBarge and his wife, Martha.
Maurice is survived by his wife, Yvonne, of 66 years; son Maurice Jr. “Jerry” of Syracuse, NY; daughter Tammy (David) Parker of Brainardsville, NY; daughter Cindy (Dale) Bushey of Rutland, VT; daughter Paula (Norman) Secore of Pinnacle, NC; daughter Wanda (Greg) Denman of Malone, NY; son-in-law Louis Moss of Rootstown, OH; two (2) brothers, Dennis (Sandy) Griffin and Bruce (Susan) Griffin; five (5) sisters, Clara Jane Collins; Judy (Joseph) King; Sharon Griffin; Nancy (Donald) Dora and Betty (Thomas) Marlow. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren, Amber Cook, Kerry Griffin, David Jr. and Jeffrey Parker, Brandon and Ryan Bushey, Nicole and Matthew Moss, Derek and Devin Secore, Elizabeth and Gwendolyn Aldrich, 2 great grandchildren, Micah and Nora Woodley; and many many nieces and nephews.
Maurice is predeceased by his daughters, Laura “Lolly” Griffin and Kathy Moss; his daughter-in-law, Patricia “Tisha” Griffin; his parents-in-law, Francis “Joe” and Mildred Noreault; his brothers William, Leonard, Otha and Francis, and his sister Arlea “Susie” Lawrence; and several brothers/sisters-in-law.
A service for immediate family and close friends will be held at a later date in Brainardsville, NY.
