Malone- Robert J. Brown Sr. 93, of the Alice Center, Malone, NY. passed away peacefully on January 9th, 2020. Born in Malone, NY on February 10th, 1926 to his parents Leo and Louella Fountain Brown.

In high school he was active in sports, participating in track, football, basketball and softball. Before finishing high school, at the age of 17, Bob enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corp in November 1943, going to Paris Island for Boot Camp. He completed 3 Campaign’s in Tinian, Marianas Islands, Saipan and Okinawa Islands. Bob received multiple medals and ribbons including the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. He was honorably discharged on April 8th, 1946.

After his time in the service, Bob attended the Ferris Institute in Big Rapids, MI to complete his High School Education. He then went on to Paul Smiths College to further his education in Forestry.

From 1947 to 1959 Bob worked for the New York Central Railroad. He then worked at Reynolds Metals until he retired in 1989.

Bob married the love of his life, Ruth Ann Lawler, on May 17th, 1952. She predeceased him on February 18th, 2011.

In his lifetime Bob was active in many organizations. Malone Amvets Club, American Legion, U.S. Marine Corp League, Knights of Columbus and the Malone Golf Club, to mention a few. He was also active in local softball teams and bowling leagues.

Bob was an avid outdoorsman; hunting and trapping were a big part of his life. In 1958 he was one of the founding members of the Derek Tract Club currently now known as Township 19 Hunting and Recreation where he was a life member.

Bob is survived by one daughter, Karen Brown Padilla and her husband Daniel of Westville, NY. two sons, Robert J. Brown Jr. and his wife Beth of North Bangor, NY, and William L. Brown and his wife Joanna of Massena, NY. He is also survived by 7 grandchildren; Rob Reynolds of Westville, NY. and Joshua Reynolds of Malone, NY. Sarah Brown of North Bangor, NY, Ryan and Mara Brown of Massena, NY. Jeffrey Stewart of Wake Forest, NC, and Gina Padilla of Malone, NY; 8 great-grandchildren; one brother, Donald Brown of Malone, NY, and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife of 60 years and his parents, Bob is predeceased by a son Jerry, a daughter Kathleen (at birth); two sisters, Shirley Batraw and Dorothy Brooks.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Roberts name can be made to the Malone AMVETS Club, Whippleville Rd., Malone, NY. 12953

A mass of Christian burial will be held in the Spring, to be announced at a later date.
