William Shannon

John passed away peacefully at home on 19 Dec. 2019 in Monmouth Wales. He is survived by his wife Daphne, and his children Anne, John (Sheila Quinlan) and Maureen (Martin Hughes) from his first marriage as well as grandchildren Jessica Tan, Roy Shannon and Ella Hughes. He was predeceased by his first wife Sheena in 1988.

He graduated from the London Hospital with a MB degree in 1937. During WWII he joined the British Army Medical Services Corps and served in North Africa, Egypt, Palestine, Syrian, Iraq and Germany. The Burma Retreat in 1942, left him with great reminiscences. Post war England didn’t appeal to him so he and Sheena worked for 2 years in Nyasaland under the Colonial Service. He emigrated to Cornwall in 1953 to establish the pathology department at the Cornwall General Hospital. He subsequently went on to run the pathology departments at the Hotel Dieu, Winchester Memorial District, Glengarry Memorial and the Alice Hyde Hospitals.

Cremation and service of remembrance have taken place in Monmouth Wales. His ashes will be scattered at a later date.
