MASSENA – The Massena Central boys hockey team broke away to a 6-1 NAC win over Franklin Academy at the Massena Arena on Tuesday.
The Red Raiders (6-3, 4-1) carried a 1-0 lead into the third period before surging past the Huskies (3-7-1, 2-4). Patrick Barclay opened the scoring with a power play goal, set up by Matt Trimboli and Zack Barney, with 1:13 left in the middle frame.
Barclay made it 2-0 at 3:09 of the third, assisted by Zack Monacelli and Brendan Finnegan. Mikey Kuhn extended the Massena margin to three goals at the 4:13 mark with an unassisted tally. Nick Linstad made it a four-goal game with a shorthanded tally set up by Nick Morrell at 10:39, but Franklin Academy’s Aadam Fakir countered with an unassisted goal on the same man advantage just 20 seconds later for what held up as the lone FA goal.
Connor Terry connected for his first high school career goal 55 seconds after that, assisted by Barney and Garrett Engstrom, then Kuhn closed out the scoring with 45 seconds left on passes by Morrell and Aidan Aldous.
Dakota Allen stopped 16 shots for the Red Raiders, while Jeremiah Scharf worked the Huskies’ crease for 25 saves.
Massena is slated to host Salmon River at 7 p.m. next Wednesday, while Franklin Academy travels to Potsdam for a 1 p.m. start on Saturday.
