MALONE — Steve “Beaver” Halprin, a 1975 FA graduate, is one of the 2020 Class of FA/SJA Hall of Fame inductees.

Halprin was an outstanding Huskies wrestler who began his NAC wrestling dominance in 1972-73 as a sophomore.

He was coached by veteran FA wrestling mentor Richard Logan, who started the FA wrestling program.

Halprin, along with veterans like Bruce Johnson, Eric Wood, Hal Hoye and Mike Plante, to name a few, won multiple titles and section and state championships during Halprin’s tenure at FA.

They built the tradition of winning and a warning to all conference foes that Franklin Academy will be a continuous thorn in their sides in future years to come.

In Halprin’s Inaugural season as a sophomore, he became a Section 10 force as he was an NAC Champion at 98 pounds. He led the Huskies to a first-place team finish in the NAC with the record for most team points that season. Halprin was 11-2 his first season.

In his junior season in 1974, Steve was a Section 10 champion at 98 pounds. Halprin completed his junior year undefeated at 16 wins and 0 losses. He also again notched a section 10 98-pound title.

In his senior season in 1975, Halprin was also undefeated at 16-0. He was also a Section 10 champion and New York State Champion in his 98-pound division.

Halprin is enshrined in the FA Wrestling team Wall of Fame and is also part of FA’s 100 Victory Club, which is the top honor for Huskie wrestling.
