CANTON – Franklin Academy baseball bounced back with a road win over Canton on Friday after falling to Gouverneur the day prior. The Huskies scored four runs in the first inning en route to a 7-3 victory, their first of the season.

The Golden Bears (0-2) made all three of their runs in the final frame. Logan Spaulding threw eight strikeouts on the mound for Franklin Academy (1-2), and Patrick Poupore added one in relief.

“We had a good bounce back game,”Huskies coach Tim Lamay said. “We got another strong pitching performance from Logan Spaulding with Pat Poupore coming in to get the final out. Our offense came alive some but we still have more work to do.”

Jordan Perry and Poupore had two runs apiece. Keegan McArdle, Brock Spaulding and Brady Hopkinson had a run each.



The Franklin Academy golf team improved to 4-0 after defeating Potsdam, 220-291 at the Potsdam Town and Country Club on Friday.

“The team seemed to take a liking to the Potsdam course, which is great since that is where sectionals are being held this year,” Huskies coach Chris Kelley said. “Sam Eells and Jack Monette in particular, played well.”

Dawson Miletich (43), Will Leroy (44), Jerry Scharf (42), Jack Monette (45) and Sam Eells (46) posted the winning scores for Franklin Academy. The Sandstoners now sit at 0-4 on the season.


Salmon River golf improved to 2-1 on the season after a win over Colton-Pierrepont (0-4) at the Potsdam Town and Country Club on Friday.

Evan Collette (42), Carter Johnson (46), Gavin Cook-Avery (45), Connor Dishaw (43) and Eystyn Wylie (47) led the Shamrocks over the Colts.
