MADRID – The Franklin Academy golf team improved to 2-0 on the season after defeating Madrid-Waddington, 248-328 on the road.
Jack Monette, Dawson Miletech and Evan Miller each led the day with 48 shots each for the Huskies.
“This was the first time playing a course other than Malone, for most of these guys,” Franklin Academy coach Chris Kelley said. “Given the cold and wet conditions, they did a pretty good job. Hopefully we get warmer drier conditions soon.”
Jerry Scharf and Sam Eells posted 51 and 53 respectively for the Huskies.
With just five golfers rostered for the Hornets, Franklin Academy had three scores in exhibition via Owen Eells (53), Will Leroy (48) and Seth Lockwood (56).
HIGH SCHOOL BOYS LACROSSE
Salmon River fell to Canton, 9-6 on the road to open the season. Stone Chubb led the Shamrocks in scoring with four goals. Kata Elijah and Crayton Cree (one assist) scored a goal apiece.
Carey Terrance made two assists for Salmon River. Tehanerahtiens Barnes and Ethan Seymour made an assist each as well.
“We played ok for our first game. We need to focus on picking up loose balls and not turning the ball over,” Shamrocks coach Jim Barnes said. “We have a lot of new players and lots of room for improvement. Saka Thompson made some nice saves for us today.”
Thompson made 13 saves in goal for Salmon River.
HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL
Potsdam 8, Franklin Academy 2
Logan Spaulding and Jordan Perry provided a run each in the road loss. Dominic St. Hilaire and Patrick Poupore had an RBI apiece.
Poupore made six strikeouts on the mound. Spaulding had two strikeouts and St. Hilaire added one as well.
“It was easy to tell it was the first baseball game for these guys in a couple of years. We gave Potsdam a lot of extra outs and they took advantage of them,” Huskies coach Tim Lamay said. “It was a good measure if the things we need to work on. Our pitchers threw strikes. We didn’t make plays and didn’t get the timely hits we needed.”

Conner Lewis struck out seven as Salmon River beat the Blue Devils in a Central Division game in Ogdensburg.
