MALONE – The Franklin Academy softball team routed Potsdam, 16-1 in five innings to open the 2021 season at home Tuesday.

Senior pitcher Ryleigh McCauley – who recently committed to play softball at SUNY Brockton – threw 14 strikes and gave up just three hits. Courtney Dumas hit a double in the win.

“The girls played very well for our first game of the season,” Huskies coach Terry Collins said. “I hope they can keep the momentum as we have a very challenging week playing OFA, Governeur and Canton on the road against tough competition.”


Canton 221, Salmon River 268

The Salmon River golf team fell to Canton in team score to open up the season. Evan Collette (57), Jared Showen (59), Carter Johnson (47), Gavin Cook-Avery (58) and Connor Dishaw (57) led the Shamrocks.

Ryan Jones (41), Sam Sieminski (42), John O’Neill (47), Cayden Cady (47) and Brad Frank (44) lifted the Golden Bears in their first win of the season.
