St. John Bosco handed Chateaugay its first loss of the 2019-20 Franklin CYO Basketball League season on Saturday, while Maranatha, Citizen Advocates and the FBMM law firm teamalso earned victories in games contested at St. Joe’s gym in Malone.

Maranatha 67,

Ogdensburg 28

Brayden Powell nearly outscored the Ogdensburg Boys & Girls Club all by himself and led the winners with a game-high 24 points. Eddie Russell and Jeremy LeClair combined for another 30 points, 15 each, while Ryan Avery followed with an eight-point outing. Kyle Avery logged the other three points for Maranatha.

Stephen Javier led OBGC with eight points, as Tyler George had five and Bryce Redmond four. Conner O’Shea, Nick Davidson and Frank Markelle rounded out the scoring with two points each.

Citizen Advocates 51,

Bangor 33

Dawson Scharf led the victors with 17 points, as Alex Hanna followed with 12. Braedyn Dietz contributed eight of both points and rebounds, while Nick Bertrand finished with seven points. Blake Rivers connected for four points, with Toby Vermette scoring three.

Bangor was led by Caiden LaMay’s game-high 20 points, with Tyson Preve scoring six. Connor Smith netted five and Scott McCray Jr. had the other two points to go along with five rebounds.

St. John Bosco 49,

Chateaugay 45

St. John Bosco pulled off a stunning upset of previously undefeated Chateaugay, which hurt its chances of remaining unbeaten with poor foul shooting. Chateaugay missed 10 attempts from the stripe during the fourth quarter and made just six of 21 tries in the game. The difference in the outcome came in the third quarter, as SJB outscored Chateaugay 15-5.

Conner Chevrier led St. John Bosco with nine points, as Lynden Webb and Seth Gonia connected for eight points apiece. Webb collected seven rebounds and cashed in a pair of charity tosses late in regulation to preserve the win. Josh Bova and Jeremy Lamitie added six points each to the victory, with Austin St. Denis and Logan Hohol scoring four points each.

Cody Woodard led Chateaugay with a game-high 19 points, while Carter Tower finished with 12. Hunter Trombley and Brady Magoon finished with five points each, as Julia Bosley connected on a free throw.

FBMM 53,

Smitty’s Construction 50

Zedynn Poirier led the Fischer, Bessette, Muldowney & McArdle law firm contingent to its win with 19 points, as Sage Sovie also connected for double digits, with 13. Garrett Osborn added seven points and Jeb Shea six to the win, while Ethan LaVarre finished with four and Connor Hanna scored two.

Smitty’s bid to break into the win column fell just short, as the team was outscored 16-11 in the fourth quarter. Brady Sweet led Smitty’s with 19 points, as Nate Martin followed with 11. Lucas Saumier scored nine points, with Kelson Preve and Logan McMahon tossing in four each. Jarrett Sweet accounted for the other three points for Smitty’s.

Maranatha 19, Smitty’s 12

Damien McCave and Marcus Langlois led Maranatha with six points apiece, as Kyle Avery had four points, Monique Faubert netted two and Jacob Foster completed the output with a free throw. Emma Russell, Kelson Preve and Mason Peloquin scored four points each for Smitty’s.

Citizen Advocates 35,

St. John Bosco 11

Rieley Smythe paced the winners with a double-double of 17 points and 12 rebounds, while Terrell Mosher and Tyler Trombley connected for six points apiece. Nick Kline and Dawson Warner chipped in with three points each. Derek Bova led SJB with six points, as Ethan Reome and Logan LaRocque finished with three and two points, respectively.

Chateaugay 28, Bangor 16

Julia Bosley led the winners with 13 points, while Riley Dupuis followed with nine. Alex McDonald, Jamie Lynn Helm and Dyer Dupuis rounded out the scoring with two points each. Landon Jarvis paced Bangor with eight points, as Kaden Jarvis followed with six and Connor Rust had the other two.
