Now that we have moved past the middle of the month of June and with the state relaxing most of its COVID-19 restrictions that brought an immediate stop to the spring sports season even before it began, the Malone Telegram Sports Department will continue with its recognition of the northern Franklin County high school seniors who would have been in their final sporting campaigns.
Over the next few issues of The Telegram, the Sports Department will send out a final salute to those student/athletes who would have undoubtably been featured with a photo, or two, throughout the spring season. Some of the information received regarding these seniors is more in depth than others, while some failed to respond to multiple requests for information.
The next salute is to the only senior on coach Chris Kelley’s Franklin Academy golf team to respond with bio information – Blake River, who was a three-sport athlete for the Huskies. The other two seniors listed on the FA golf sign-up roster are Sophia LaPlant and Mitchell Miletich.
Blake Rivers, son of Jeff and Ginger Rivers, participated in three sports (soccer, basketball, golf) during his four-year high school career. He enjoys hiking, hunting, four-wheeling, golfing and just being outdoors.
“I will be attending Siena College in the fall to study data science and business analytics,” stated the FA graduate, who plans to play club basketball and participate in the pep band at the Siena Men’s basketball games at the Times Union Center in Albany.
Blake was ranked seventh in his class of 139 at Franklin Academy, and also plans to continue working at Dunkin’ throughout the summer before beginning his college career at Siena.
