School embraces new teaching tool

CHATEAUGAY — Chateaugay middle school teachers have a new tool to help deal with problematic behaviors in their students, the school board heard in a presentation from Crystal Sampica-Manor, behavior specialist at the district.

Positive behavioral intervention and supports (PBIS) creates a system of incentives that rewards students whose behaviors are appropriate in the school setting, while removing liberties for those who behave in ways that are detrimental to the experience of other students.
