MALONE — Franklin County Public Health is awaiting confirmation on the last reported COVID-19 death, the 17th of the ongoing pandemic.

Franklin County Public Health has not been able to confirm the cause of the last reported death due to complications caused by the COVID-19 virus, according to an email from Franklin County Manager Donna Kissane.

The county reported the 17th death of the pandemic, Tuesday.

“While it was reported by a family member, the local health department is waiting for confirmation from the facility,” Kissane’s email said.

Reached by phone, Kissane said while COVID-19 is suspected to be the cause of the fatality, the county is awaiting official confirmation.

Correspondence from Katie Strack, director of Franklin County Public Health, states regret over the premature reporting of a Franklin County COVID death.

The facility where the death was reported is located outside of the county, and the county’s health department is awaiting final determination on the cause of the death reported on Tuesday, according to Strack’s correspondence.
