BRANDON — Gary L. Marshall, 79, of the Town of Brandon, died Sunday night at Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital.
Marshall was the highway superintendent for Brandon and had been for approximately 46 years, and had worked for 38 years at ALCOA in Massena.
On his days off, Marshall enjoyed camping, dirt car racing, his golf cart and contributing his time helping other members of the community.
“He did a great job taking care of the road. He was very gracious in ensuring that the black top paving was well facilitated to ensure that our food panty operations could continue smoothly,” Pastor Juanita Brooks said. “It really hurt to hear of his passing. He was committed to his work serving the community despite all of the health issues he was experiencing. He valued his family and I’m certain that his family will miss him dearly.”
Marshall is survived by his sons and their partners, Barry and Lori Marshall, Curtis and Stephanie Marshall, Corey Marshall, Cary and Norene Marshall, and Jary and Shelley Marshall. He is also survived by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Ashley, Jessica, Morgan, Brooke, Madison, Logan, Owen, William, Elijah, Jackson, Olivia, Brooke and Austin.
“He was a legend and will be missed by everyone,” Town Supervisor Michael Lawrence said. “He was a very important spoke in our wheel as he not only met the needs of his position but for the needs of all people in Brandon. His life was dedicated to this town.”
“It was real sad to hear of his passing,” Town Councilor Ronald Goyea said. “He was a good man who looked out for his fellow man. If someone needed help, Marshall wouldn’t hesitate to be there.”
Memorial contributions may be made in his name to the North Bangor Fire and Rescue Department.
