Fat Jake’s blaze started in attic

MALONE — Although the direct cause of Tuesday’s fire at Fat Jake’s is still under investigation, responders upon arrival found that the blaze was active in the upper portion of the structure, fire officials said.

“(It was) just a little bit of an attic fire,” Shawn Monica of the Malone fire department said.

The fire was reported on East Main Street at around 7:15 p.m., fire officials said.

There was little exterior damage to the building that was visible at the scene.

Monica added that the fire was electrical in origin, though there wasn’t much more information available, with investigation ongoing.

Any occupants who were inside the building were cleared by the time help from the fire department arrived, and no one was reported hurt, Monica said. The fire station’s mutual aid team on Tuesday included Westville, Constable, Bangor and Burke’s departments.
