MALONE –– The North Franklin Federal Credit Union building on East Main Street in the village will nearly triple in size as a result of a construction and renovation project planned for this summer.
NFFCU announced to its members last week that the credit union will soon be starting construction at their current 494 E. Main St. location with a 7,500-square-foot expansion, in addition to remodeling the current 4,500-square-foot structure. Construction of the expanded building is expected to be completed by early 2021, NFFCU officials said.
The credit union plans to remain open throughout all phases of the project.
“On behalf of the Board of Directors and the NFFCU team, I am excited to announce that we will be expanding and renovating our Downtown Malone location.” Darin Childs, CEO of NFFCU, said in a release announcing the project. “Simply put, we have outgrown our current facility. It’s a good problem to have, but it presents some challenges. Today, our talented team has been forced to share close quarters which in turn limits our ability for future growth.
“Currently, 15 full-time employees work at NFFCU, and with the new expansion, we will have enough space to accommodate 35-plus employees,” Childs said. “I believe the expansion will be seen as a symbol of our continued investment and loyalty to our local community, and it will also provide the needed space to better serve and support our growing membership for years to come.”
The project will include the installation of advanced technology, creation of a complementary coffee bar, a larger lobby and waiting area, a community wall, a coin machine, multiple ATMs, an additional entrance from Main Street and additional parking.
The project is being designed and built by the PW Campbell Contracting Co., based in Pittsburgh. The company, which has built a number of banks and credit union buildings in Pennsylvania and Maryland, will use local North Country contractors for the project, the release said.
The credit union will be releasing periodic updates on the status of the work, as well as posting more frequent updates on its Facebook page.
The North Franklin Federal Credit Union is based in Malone and serves more than 5,000 members. It has more than $70 million in assets, the release said.
